Band of Brothers

This was an amazing opportunity for me just after I started my company, Take Flight Media in 2011. Through a series of new connections, I learned that these two WWII veterans were coming to Minneapolis to promote their book. I offered to capture their story on video and am so glad that they accepted. With the help of several fellow creatives, we captured their story and experiences. It was an honor to capture their story and spend time with them. Ed “Doc” Pepping and Al Mampre were two of the original WWII paratroopers that were part of Easy Company 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Easy Company’s experiences were made popular by Stephen Ambrose’s book, Band of Brothers (1992), and the 10 hour HBO mini-series, Band of Brothers.

Ed and Al were both assigned to E Company when it was created in 1942 in Camp Toccoa, Georgia. They quickly became friends and have been best friends their entire lives. They both served at medics. Ed made the jump into Normandy in the early hours of the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. Al missed that jump due to a neck injury, but did make the daytime jump into the German-occupied Netherlands during Operation Market Garden on September 17, 1944.

My son, Christopher, and I had the opportunity to visit with Al Mampre in his home outside of Chicago several years later and had a wonderful time with him

Thank you to Al Mampre and Ed Pepping for serving our country and for making time for this interview. They have both since passed away (Ed in 2018 and Al in 2019). It was an honor to capture their stories while they were with us.

The first video below is the 4 minute preview. The second video is the full 32 minute interview.
